LayOut for SketchUp is a fantastic somewhat intuitive program that can be used very successfully for landscape and garden design.
It has a much less complicated user interface than other CAD programs that are used in garden design. This is fantastic in a lot of instances; however, it is also a lot more limited than other packages like VectorwWorks. There are not as many time saving tools built into the software.

SketchUp, despite its widespread recognition and popularity in various design fields, has some disadvantages. One key drawback is its primarily two-dimensional nature, limiting the depth perception of three-dimensional objects created within the program.
| Windows: Select Window > Default Tray > Soften Edges. Or context-click your selection and choose Soften/Smooth Edges. Either way, the Soften Edges dialog box appears, as shown in the figure. Click and drag the Angle between normals slider to set the maximum size of all angles that will be smoothed or softened.
When you add a plant to a project, you're importing that plant – and all associated information – from our plant database. Once you've added a plant to your project, you can begin placing it in your drawing.
