Can you use SketchUp for garden design? ›

If you've ever seen a SketchUp 3D garden design model rendered into a photorealistic image, you'll know how startlingly powerful it can be, perfect for experimenting and just as good for convincing clients and others about your ideas.

LayOut for SketchUp is a fantastic somewhat intuitive program that can be used very successfully for landscape and garden design.

Professional landscape design provide the tools and automation to create accurate layouts and models of landscapes. Professional landscape designers and landscape architects can use Autodesk software to create 2D drawings or 3D models that save time, cost and materials.

LayOut is only available as part of the Pro package. It is not available as a stand alone program. If you are using SketchUp for commercial work, you do need pro for the license.

SketchUp, despite its widespread recognition and popularity in various design fields, has some disadvantages. One key drawback is its primarily two-dimensional nature, limiting the depth perception of three-dimensional objects created within the program.

| Windows: Select Window > Default Tray > Soften Edges. Or context-click your selection and choose Soften/Smooth Edges. Either way, the Soften Edges dialog box appears, as shown in the figure. Click and drag the Angle between normals slider to set the maximum size of all angles that will be smoothed or softened.

When you add a plant to a project, you're importing that plant – and all associated information – from our plant database. Once you've added a plant to your project, you can begin placing it in your drawing.
