Creative s'more ideas: 15+ alternative s'mores recipes - Fab Everyday (1)

You all know how much we like to camp… and since a camping trip just doesn’t feel complete without s’mores, we have had plenty of time to experiment with different s’more recipe variations. You gotta mix it up to keep it fun, and there is no shortage of alternative s’mores recipes!

Whether we’re camping as a family or with our Camp Fire scouting club, we always bring a variety of s’mores ingredients so that everyone can make whatever types of s’more they like. We call it a “s’mores-gasbord!” Here are some of our favorite creative s’more ideas for your next camping trip or a build-your-own s’mores bar for a camping-themed party. Reese’s S’mores

Our FAVORITE s’mores variation is using a Reese’s cup instead of a regular piece of chocolate. The consistency and size of the Reese’s works perfectly for a s’more, and the flavor is AH-mazing! Seriously, try this one at your earliest convenience. It’s life-changing.

Sometimes for some added fun we will slow roast the whole s’more over the fire for a bit after assembling it, by sandwiching it between the skewers on your roasting stick. It makes the Reese’s all melty.

Mint Chocolate S’mores

On those same lines, if you are a fan of mint chocolate (like my husband), then you will also enjoy the variation of using a mint-filled chocolate square on your s’more instead of a regular milk chocolate bar. It’s very rich and decadent. You can use Andes mint chocolates, Ghirardelli squares, or even go completely outside the s’mores box and sandwich a marshmallow between two Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies.

Chocolate Caramel Squares S’mores

Another decadent alternative s’mores option is using a caramel-filled chocolate square instead of the regular chocolate.I have used both Ghirardelli squares or a block of four Cadbury squares, which are both ideally sized for s’mores.

Easy alternative s’mores ideas: Change up the chocolate bar

Dark Chocolate S’mores: One of the easiest ways to vary up the traditional s’more recipe of graham cracker, milk chocolate bar, and roasted marshmallow is to just change the type of chocolate bar.My oldest and I are dark chocolate lovers (like, the darker the better), so we always bring Hershey’s Special Dark on camping trips for our s’mores.

Sea Salt S’mores: Dark chocolate with sea salt bars are also a delicious s’mores variation, especially if you are a fan of the salty/sweet flavor combination.

Cookies n’ Cream S’mores: This s’mores recipe is my youngest’s personal favorite. Cookies and Cream chocolate bars taste delicious on both regular honey graham crackers or chocolate graham crackers (you’ll see more ideas for s’mores variations using different flavors of graham crackers later in this post).

S’MOREOs

Creative s'more ideas: 15+ alternative s'mores recipes - Fab Everyday (8)

So simple, yet sooo delicious. S’mores made with OREO cookies (or “S’MOREOs,” as we like to call them) are really easy to make. Open your OREO cookie and scrape (or lick) out the stuffing. Replace the stuffing with a single roasted marshmallow, and you’re done! No additional chocolate is needed for this alternative s’more recipe.

Fudge Stripe Cookie S’mores

Along these same lines, you can replace both the graham cracker and chocolate part of a s’more by sandwiching a roasted marshmallow between two fudge stripe cookies. Use the Keebler brand, store brand, or even Girl Scout Caramel deLites. You don’t need any additional chocolate, and the marshmallow will make the cookie’s chocolate all gooey and delicious.

Pretzel Crisps S’mores

Creative s'more ideas: 15+ alternative s'mores recipes - Fab Everyday (11)

Again for the people who love a salty/sweet flavor combo, a delicious and easy s’more recipe idea is to use Pretzel Crisps instead of graham crackers. You only need one section of chocolate (instead of two like you would for a graham cracker s’more), and I personally like to use dark chocolate or sea salt dark chocolate. You might have seen pretzel s’mores before, but I find that they’re much less messy to make and eat using the flat Pretzel Crisps instead of regular pretzels.

Cinnamon Graham Cracker S’mores: A super easy alternative s’mores idea is to simply switch out the honey graham cracker with cinnamon graham crackers.

Double Chocolate S’mores: Likewise, swap your regular graham cracker with a chocolate graham. You can make these double dark chocolate s’mores using dark chocolate candy, or a reverse s’more using a white chocolate candy bar.

Peanut Butter S’mores

Creative s'more ideas: 15+ alternative s'mores recipes - Fab Everyday (14)

Chocolate and peanut butter go famously well together (see the Reese’s S’mores recipe at the beginning of this post), so if you’re looking for a creative way to mix-up your s’mores, add some creamy peanut butter to one half of the graham cracker. You can even try it without the chocolate (just graham, peanut butter, and marshmallow).

For a party mix or just a sweet snack, you can make deconstructed s’mores by mixing Golden Grahams cereal, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips. No campfire required for this s’mores alternative.

Seasonal S’mores: In case you didn’t know, you can find many varieties of seasonal flavored s’mores during different times of year (like gingerbread or pumpkin spice, which both go really well with cinnamon graham crackers). These are easy ways to change up your s’more game depending on the time of year you are camping.

Peeps S’mores: Love them or hate them, you’ve got to admit that these little guys make a colorful s’mores alternative. Use leftover Easter Peeps on s’mores instead of marshmallows during a spring camping trip. The kids love the colorful results, and they taste like regular s’mores, but a bit sweeter. Another thing that’s cool about Peeps S’mores is that the sugar dusted on the outside of the Peeps caramelizes nicely when they are roasted.

S’mores shortcuts

Nutella S’mores: Swap out the chocolate bar for Nutella or your favorite hazelnut spread as an alternative s’more idea.

No-Roast S’mores: Marshmallow fluff can be spread onto a graham cracker with some chocolate if you need to make s’mores at home or without a campfire.

I hope you try some of these ideas for your own s’mores-gasbord! Enjoy!
