Which is better, Sony or Samsung QLED? ›

Verdict: In the low-end market, Sony and Samsung use LCD panels with similar picture quality. In the high-end segment, Sony TVs utilize OLED for accurate images in perfect conditions, while Samsung's QLED displays offer brighter screens but slightly lower contrast.

The Sony X80K is mediocre for gaming. It's an entry-level TV that lacks many gaming features, like variable refresh rate support or HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, meaning you can't use it for high-frame-rate gaming from a gaming PC, a PS5, or an Xbox Series X.

Sony TVs generally offer better picture quality due to their superior OLED technology, delivering perfect blacks and more accurate colors. However, Samsung's QLED and Neo QLED models provide excellent brightness and vibrant colors, making them ideal for brightly lit rooms.

Though there are certain QLED panel types and screen filters that can help reduce this problem, many QLED TVs suffer from poor viewing angles. This is especially true on entry-level and midrange models from budget-friendly brands like TCL and Hisense.

They both have a full-array local dimming feature, but the Sony's performs better because it doesn't cause uniformity issues like the Samsung's. On the flip side, the Samsung has a wider color gamut and gets brighter overall.

Our Verdict. The Sony X90K/X90CK is a higher-end TV than the Sony X80K/X80CK with better performance.

The Sony X80K/X80CK is a bit better than the Sony X75K, although the differences are extremely minor. The Sony X80K has a much wider color gamut and better tone mapping, so HDR content looks more vivid and lifelike overall, and it can remove judder from 24p sources, while the X75K can't.

We used the 'Custom' Picture Mode because it's the most accurate out of the box and allows for the most customization. The 'Vivid' Picture Mode offers a slightly brighter image, but the difference is minimal, and the image is less accurate.

If you're looking for a TV for a home theater or for primarily nighttime viewing, OLED is the way to go. You'll be able to better see content with darker backgrounds and have better picture quality overall. The only problem to consider with OLED picture quality is image retention or burn-in.
