A gloomy, cloudy day is the best time to plant seedlings in the garden. If it's lightly drizzling, all the better. But if the forecast is for fair weather, avoid planting seedlings in the hot, mid-day sun. Get an early start in the morning, or wait and set a few plants in the ground at the end of the day.

The cost of production is built into our seed prices. In order to create a viable localized economy, farmers have to be able to make a living. We pay our farmers often ten times more for their seeds than large-scale seed companies will pay, because that's truly what it costs to produce these crops.

Early to mid-March is the best time to plant early season cold-tolerant plants like broccoli, cabbage, and head lettuce, and long-season heat-loving plants like peppers, okra, and eggplant. If you mainly just start tomatoes at home, you can wait until early April.

Tomatoes are pretty unique in the vegetable world because they can grow roots from any part of their stem that is buried underground. Transplanting is a really excellent opportunity to help a seedling that may look a bit tall or 'scraggly' grow into a healthy plant with a strong root system.
