What do people wear to Colonial Downs? ›

Appropriate clothing is required at all times, which includes shoes, shirts and pants, or equivalent. Clothing which can be considered vulgar, obscene, profane, offensive, promoting violence or otherwise likely to offend or cause a disturbance is not permitted.

The 9-week summer thoroughbred racing season at Colonial Downs — which runs from July 13 – September 9 — is more fan friendly for locals! Race programs will be scheduled every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 1:30 PM.

In rendering their decision, commissioners stated that Colonial Downs "displayed callous disregard for the industry" when it surrendered its unlimited racing license in 2014. A spokesman for Jacobs Entertainment, Inc. said that all options to keep the track open have been exhausted.

The two track surfaces at Colonial Downs are second to none. The Secretariat Turf Course is 1 1/8 miles around and is 180 feet wide. The outer dirt oval is 1 1/4 miles long and is second in length only to Belmont Park's, which is 1 1/2 miles around.
