L. Evelyn (Beller) Kinsey

L. Evelyn Kinsey, age 85, of 1000 Maplewood Avenue, Willard, and formerly of Killbuck, Ohio, died Sunday, August 04, 2002, at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby after a long illness.

She was born February 3, 1917 in Killbuck, the daughter of the late Albert and Loverta (Brink) Beller. Mrs. Kinsey was a graduate of Killbuck High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Killbuck.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Todd Roberts of Plymouth; 2 grandchildren: Drue Roberts and Erin Slone both of Plymputh; a great-grandaughter: McKinsey Koch; and a son, Roger Kinsey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kinsey in 1989; 3 sisters: Loomis Allison, Lillian Starner, and Edna Beller.

There will be no calling hours. Private family services will be held. Memorial expressions may be made to Crestwood Care Center or to Hospice of North Central Ohio and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.

Jeffrey John Lake

Jeffrey John Lake, 25, of 18 Steele Ave. died Friday afternoon in Akron General Medical Center after a short illness. He was born September 23, 1961 in Shelby and had been employed as a printer at Carton Service in Shelby. He also was a member of the Shelby Y.

He is survived by his mother, Reatha (Stickney) Lake of Shelby; 2 brothers: Michael, of Princeton IL, and Steven of New Haven, CT; one nephew John of Princeton, IL; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; Warren Lake in 1981.

Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Malcolm Brook officiating. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery in Shelby. Friends may call the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Akron General Medical Center and left at the funeral home.

Lora (Little) Layne

Lora Layne, age 77, of HC-80-Box 640, of Dema, Kentucky, died Monday evening in Shelby Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born December 24, 1913 in Pike County, Kentucky, the daughter of Dennis and Donna (Tackett) Little.

Mrs. Layne was a homemaker and was a member of the Caney Fork Old Regular Baptist Church in Raven, Kentucky.

She is survived by 1 daughter and son-in-Iaw: Beulah and Donald Pifer of Shelby; 2 sons and daughter-in-law: Douglas and Sandra Slone of Mansfield, and Leonard and Billie Jean Slone of Shelby; 1 stepson, Ray Layne of Dema, Kentucky; 6 step-daughters: Verna Mae Lax of Murray, Kentucky; Verlie Easteridge of Lebanon, Kentucky; Norma Jean Odgen of Taylor, Michigan; Lucille Haywood of Denton, Kentucky; Hassie Hall of Red Fox, Kentucky; and Leslie Martin of Morehead, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother Malcolm Little of Price, Kentucky; 3 sisters: Mamie Sturgil and Jeannette Mullins of Wayland, Kentucky, and Adith Morris of Hippo, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Canton Slone in 1967; her second husband Ben Layne in 1989; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at the Caney Fork Old Regular Baptist Church in Raven, Kentucky under the direction of the Old Regular Baptist Ministers. Burial will be in Turner Cemetery in Deme, Kentucky. Calling hours will be anytime on Wednesday or Thursday at the Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky. Memorial contributions may be made to the church and left in
care of the Turner Funeral Home which is in charge of the arrangements.

Blanche (Wilson) Lewis

Blanche Lewis, age 68, of 187 West Main Street, Shelby, died early Tuesday morning in Shelby Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born January 17, 1922 in Wayne, West Virginia, the daughter of Frank and Julia (Robertson) Wilson.

Mrs. Lewis had been a nurse at Rowley Clinic and Hospital in Hunington, West Virginia and a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Hunington.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Sue and William Petry of Shelby; 3 grandchildren: Tanya Moyer, Kimberly Sweet, and Tim Petry; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters: Grace Endicott of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky; Mae Damron of Wayne, West Virginia; and Macie Frye of Hunington, West Virginia; 3 half-sisters, and 1 half-brother.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Calling hours will be today from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby on Thursday, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Friday by the Rev. Dr. Edward N. Beck, Pastor of the Taylortown Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Dorothy E. (Stout) Lutz

Dorothy E. Lutz, age 91, formerly of 13 West Madison Avenue, Shelby, died Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Mt. Carmel/St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, Ohio, after a sudden illness.

She was born February 1, 1911 in Willard, Ohio the daughter of the late Daniel and Charlotte (Bursch) Stout. She was a Shelby resident all of her life and moved to Westerville three years ago to live with her daughter. Dorothy was a homemaker and was a former employee of Joe Amato’s Superette. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Society, Alter Rosary Society, and Westerville Senior Citizens Center. God was first in Dorothy’s life followed by her love for her family. She loved life and enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, and
gardening.

Dorothy is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Allen and Janice Lutz of Muskegon, MI; Thomas and Yvonne Lutz of Mansfield; David and Carolyn Lutz of Crestline; 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Carol and Dennis Gates of Westerville, OH; and Jean Sloan of Olympia, WA; 8 grandchildren: Jeremy, Nicholas, Danielle, Joseph, Andrew, and Gabriel Lutz, Jessica Meyer, and Alexis Sloan; 2 sisters-in-law: Loretta Stout of Deleware, OH and Mabel Lutz of Ashland; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Lutz in 1970, and her second husband, Herbert Davis in 1992. She was the last survivor of 11 children.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2002, from 7-9 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where the rosary will be recited at 9 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 29,2002 at 1:00 PM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to St. Mary School Endowment Fund.

Cleo M. (Arnold) Gates Mellick

Cleo M. Mellick, age 87, of 123 Mansfield Ave., Shelby, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at her home. She was born March 30, 1902 in Cleveland, the daughter of Adam and Estella (Fackler) Arnold.

She is survived by 4 sons: Donald Gates and Kenneth Gates, both of Shelby; Douglas Gates of Sunbury; and Dennis Gates of Westerville; 4 daughters: Dorothy Shaum and Donna Nelson, both of Shelby; Mrs. Wayne (Betty) Mellick of South Carolina; and Sandra Gates of Mansfield. One step-daughter: Betty Joanne Fischer, of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Don Gates in 1963; her second husband, Fred Mellick in 1986; and two sons: Teddy and Russell Gates.

Mrs. Mellick was a homemaker and a member of the Ganges Community United Church of Christ.

Graveside services were held this morning at 11:00 A.M. in Oakland Cemetery conducted by the Rev. John J. Bradley, Pastor of the First United Church of Christ in Sheiby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ganges United Church of Christ and left at the Turner Funeral Home which was in charge of the arrangements.

John W. “Bill” Moore

John W. “Bill” Moore, age 76, of 98 Shelby Avenue, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon in Shelby Memorial Hospital. He was born July 10, 1916 in Bucyrus, Ohio, the son of Harry and Bessie (Enlow) Moore.

Mr. Moore retired in 1978 as the supervisor of road equipment for the Richland County Highway Department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby, the Mansfield
Masonic Lodge #35 F. and A.M., and the Scottish Rite, Valley Of Columbus. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Anna (Morris) Moore, whom he married on July 3, 1941; 1 daughter, Carol Calkins of Sunbury, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; 1 sister, Elaine Briggs of Euclid, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 1 sister, Margaret Roadpouch.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Funeral services wilt be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Shelby with the Revs. Lyle Hinkle and Carl Beighley officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Masonic services will be held on Friday evening at 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Memorial expressions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and left in care of the funeral home.

Ralph H. Myers

Ralph H. Myers, age 91, of 4043 State Route 39 in Shelby, died early Tuesday morning in the Crestwood Care Center. He was born June 3, 1902 in Plymouth, Ohio, the son of Jacob and Emma (Link) Myers.

Mr. Myers retired from the Gorman Rupp Corp. in Mansfield, and prior to that he had been an employee of the Shelby Cycle Co. and the Fate-Root-Heath Co. in Plymouth.

Mr. Myers is survived by his wife Lucille (Renner) Myers whom he married on August 3, 1933; 1 son Raymond L. Myers of Shelby; and 1 daughter, Margaret A. Myers of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Arthur and Albert Myers; and by 3 sisters: Helen Bettac, Nellie LaBarre, and Emma Smith.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 P.M. with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Shelby. A Christian Wake Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home.

Pauline J. (Weaver) Keller McKinney

Pauline J. Keller McKinney, age 74, of 17 East Maxwell Drive, in Shelby, died Saturday evening in the Heritage Care Center after an extended illness. She was born September 5, 1919 in Bucyrus, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Amy (Bickford) Weaver.

Mrs. McKinney was the first female underwriter at the Shelby Mutual Insurance Company from which she retired in 1978 after 26 years of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby and Circle #2 at the church. She was a Red Cross volunteer for their Bloodmobile program and a telephone volunteer for the FISH organization. She was active in the Woody Ridge ladies golf league and the Shelby “Y” Community Center. She was a graduate of Bucyrus High School.

Mrs. McKinney is survived by her husband, Fred S. McKinney, whom she married on
November 21, 1970; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Lederer of Shelby; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Gary A. and Janet Keller of Shelby; 3 step-sons and daughters-in-law: Fred Jr. and Karen McKinney of Shelby, Malcolm J. and Cheryl McKinney of Deerfield Beach, Florida, and Todd W. and Peggy McKinney of Alton, New Hampshire; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle Keller in 1967; 1 grandson, Ryan Keller; 1 brother, Marshall Bickford; and 2 sisters: Lucille Joyner and Mabel Haala.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Wednesdayat 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Shelby with her pastor the Rev. Lyle Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Brokensword Cemetery in Crawford County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, or to the Shelby “V” Community Center and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby.

Robert K. “Shorty” Orewiler

Robert K. “Shorty” Orewiler, age 81, of 21 Steele Avenue, Shelby, died Thursday, April 13, 2000 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Orewiler was born August 21, 1918 in Richland County, Ohio, the son of Orlie O. and Sarah Jane (Cotter) Orewiler. Mr. Orewiler was a 1936 graduate of Ontario High School. On September 4, 1948 he married Marie E. (Hyler), and she preceded him in death on December 5, 1993.

He retired from the Shelby City School System as the maintance director of the bus fleet after 21 years of service. He enjoyed his family as well as gardening and fishing.

Shorty is survived by his twin sister and her husband, Ruth and Harold Strohminger of Mansfield; Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and Donnell Orewiler.

Calling hours will be on Friday at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, from 6-8 PM and also on Saturday, one hour prior to the 10:30 AM funeral service, conducted by Rev. Lyle P. Hinkle, visitation Pastor of the Ontario United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Manfield Memorial Park. Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Home and Public Health, 142 North Gamble Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.
