MCT oil and coconut cream provide medium-chain fatty acids, which have been proven time and again to work wonders for a sluggish metabolism and aid weight loss.

Medium-chain fatty acids are metabolized differentdifferently than the longer chain fats — they’resent straight to the liver from the digestive tract, where they’re used for energy right away.

  • This studyshowed that eating medium-chain fatty acids increases metabolism and helps burn off stored fat.
  • This studyfound that consuming 15-30 grams of medium-chain fatty acids per day increased energy expenditure by 5%, totaling about120 calories per day.
  • This study found that MCT oil increases the release of peptide YY and leptin, two hormones that promote the feeling of fullness in the body.
  • This study, this study, and this study all found that takingMCT oil helped reduce body weight and waist circumference.
  • Andthis studyfound that people who ate coconut oil without otherwise “dieting” or reducing calories lost body fat and dropped waist size.

Yep, there’s quite a lot of science behind this!

The powerful antioxidant EGCG in green tea has alsobeen shownto boost metabolism and help burn fat.

Matcha contains three times the EGCG as regular ol’ green tea, making it three times as powerful!

I also add collagen peptides as a blood-sugar-balancing bonus, and for the skin benefits.

Collagen peptides are my favorite source of supplemental protein— they’re practically flavorless and can easily be added to any food or drink recipe.

And remember: protein and fat help to keep blood sugar levels nice and steady. Since high and erratic blood sugar levels promote inflammation, suppress the immune system, are to blame for crazy sugar cravings and “hanger,” and lead to weight gain, it’s a main focus of my diet.

Plus, collagen peptides have been shown to improve joint health and support the structural proteins that keep the skin firm and youthful! 🙂

Instructions

  1. Heat your water, removing it right before it starts to boil. (The perfect temperature for matcha is 175ºF so if you use an electronic kettle that allows you set the temperature, set it to that!)
  2. Add the matcha to your mug, and slowly pour the water on top.
  3. Whisk using a small whisk orlatte frother. (If you intend to start making matcha a lot, I highly suggest picking up this little gadget! It’s KEY for preventing clumping — and who wants to drink clumpy tea!? No one.)
  4. Add the coconut cream, collagen peptides, MCT oil, and liquid stevia.
  5. Whisk again.
  6. Enjoy!

Notes

*Serving sizes vary by brand.

**Perfect Supplements’ organic MCT oil isn’t like any other and is actually the entire reason I decided to give MCT oil a try. It’s made from coconuts, whereas most other organic MCT oil is made from palm or vegetable oil.Coupon code BODYUNBURDENED10 saves you an extra 10% off your Perfect Supplements order! Yes, on top of the 25% savings if you purchase 3 Perfect Supplements brand items!

  1. I would be interested in trying this but have a sensitivity to coconut products. I can substitute the coconut cream with a nut milk, but do you know of a replacement I could use for the MCT oil? Thanks.

  2. That’s so wonderful to hear, Suzi! And sounds like a great tweak! 🙂

  3. After the holidays I had gained a couple of pounds, which was not surprising given my not-so-cautious eating habits with all the parties and such! Thought I’d try this and within 10 days those two pounds are GONE. And I’m well into my 60’s so we can’t blame in on a youthful metabolism 🙂
I have tweaked the recipe slightly, adding about a cup of organic, unsweetened almond milk (vanilla or regular), heated of course,

  4. I’ve been drinking this latte every morning for a few weeks now and have so much more energy.

  5. Hi, Kim – no, that would be way too much caffeine and probably also taste terrible! So think of coffee and matcha each as a base, and then you’d add your creamer, sweetener, collagen, MCT, etc etc.

  6. I already add the collagen to my morning coffee. Is it safe and effective to add the matcha as well?

  7. I’ve tried a lot of different collagen brands and Perfect Supplements is definitely my favorite since it’s high-quality but also a great price – when you buy any 3 Perfect Supplements products it takes 25% off + you can stack the coupon code on top!

Ooh and thank you for mentioning this – I was wondering why it was so reasonable! Missed that and will have to edit.

And that’s so nice to hear, thank you for telling me! 🙂

  8. Thank you for the coupon, can’t wait to try the collagen powder – trying to find a brand I like best! In regards to the Matcha, I think it’s worth mentioning for the most benefit to choose celebratory grade rather than culinary. Your link shows culinary matcha (below it showed other brands, but someone not knowing this might choose the one the link lead to). I also love your book and refer back to it often

  9. You’re so welcome, Cathy! I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try!! 🙂

  10. This sounds really fabulous! I am anxious to try the supplements too. Thank you for the coupon code as well.
    Thank you
    Cathy
