Mail FAQs

Mail Basics

What are the mail center hours?

Hours of operation vary by semester and are posted at each community’s respective mail center. Mail centers are closed for business on weekends and all University observed holidays. For UCF game days, mail center hours are restricted.

What carriers are accepted?

UCF mail centers accept shipments from all major carriers, including UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon, and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). Regrettably, freight shipments are not accepted.

What does the mail center do with improperly addressed paper mail?

Improperly addressed paper mail will be looked up and every effort will be made to determine a delivery destination. If a delivery point cannot be determined, it will be returned to the sender. If a return address can’t be determined, it will be disposed of in accordance with U.S. Postal Service and UCF Housing departmental procedures.

Can students send out paper mail and packages from the mail center?

For paper mail that is already stamped, it can be dropped at any of the mail centers during posted hours. Access to the West Plaza Mail Center drop slot is available 24/7. For FedEx packages, students can visit “The Spot” (https://spot.ucf.edu/) located in the John T. Washington Center, in the breezeway across from the UCF bookstore. For U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and United Parcel Services (UPS) packages will have to be taken to the nearest post office or store. To find the nearest location and for additional information, please visit their respective websites: USPS - https://www.usps.com/ and UPS - https://www.ups.com/us/en/Home.page.

What do the “X”s in the mailing addresses mean?

The "X"s are a placeholder for the resident's pre-assigned mailbox number. Once assigned, residents can find their full mailbox number in their Housing Resident Portal or by visiting their mail center. Once the resident knows their mailbox number, it can be included in the mailing address. The mailbox number is not needed to ship packages; however, it is encouraged that it be included for identification purposes.

Mail Logistics

Is there a cost to receive an on-campus mailbox?

Mailboxes are assigned to current student residents only, and there is no cost associated with having a mailbox.

How do students obtain a mail key?

To obtain a mail key, students should visit their respective community’s mail center. Students will be asked to present their UCFID and will sign for a mail key. If students lose their mail key or fail to return it prior to moving out, a replacement fee of $50.00 will be assessed.

Receiving Mail

When does the mail center receive incoming mail?

UCF mail centers receive incoming USPS mail every morning (at no specific time) and processes it within 24 hours. Processing times may be longer during peak periods.

What time of day do UPS, FedEx, DHL, and other carriers deliver?

All major package carriers deliver once per day. UPS, FedEx, Amazon, DHL, and Lasership deliver directly to the mail centers. Students should wait until they receive an internal email notification from their respective mail center (not the carriers ‘Delivered’ notification) to pick up a package.

If a student has moved, can they continue to receive mail at the campus mail center?

Unfortunately, UCF mail centers are not able to accommodate anyone who has moved, graduated or who are no longer a part of the University.

What happens with a student’s mail after leaving UCF housing?

Mail received for anyone not currently living in UCF housing is returned to the sender. Before students leave UCF housing, they should notify senders of their new mailing address or add a forwarding address through their housing portal. To add a forwarding address, access the housing portal. To get started, login via myUCF. In myUCF, navigate to Student Self Service > Housing > Housing Portal. Once in the housing portal, select establish forwarding address under housing quick links.

No, the mail center will not accept packages that require a signature from someone 21 or older. Packages requiring a signature from someone 21 or olderwill be refused.

Will students be notified once a package arrives?

The UCF mail center’s internal tracking system will send an email notification to the student’s official Knights email that they have processed a package. During peak periods the mail centers may ask students to wait 2 hours before picking up a package. Students will receive a notification for each package that is received. Students must show their UCF ID in order to pick up packages.

If a carrier has stated that a package has been delivered and signed for, can a student pick it up?

Packages that are signed for by the mail center first need to be entered into a package tracking software. Students should wait to receive an email from their respective UCF mail center before coming to pick up packages.

How can a student find out where a package is?

First, make sure that the package has been delivered to the correct Housing mail address by the carrier. Then email housingmail@ucf.edu from your UCF student email account requesting assistance locating the package. Students must provide the package tracking number, their name, and community, for the mail center staff to better locate the package.

Why do students have to sign for a package?

Every package or envelope that requires a signature for delivery also requires a signature from the recipient. This is primarily for security reasons but also for accountability and tracking.

What if a student doesn’t pick up a package?

Packages will be held for a maximum of 30 days. Packages unclaimed after 30 days will be returned to the sender.

Can a student authorize someone else to pick up their package?

Having a friend's/roommate's ID is NOT accepted. However, students can email housingmail@ucf.edu, from their UCF student email with their name, UCFID, and the full name of the person that they authorize to pick-up on their behalf. The authorized person MUST have their own valid photo ID. The mail centers will not release a package without email approval.

Can students receive perishable items?

The mail centers accept perishable packages from traditional carriers only (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, Laser ship, etc.). Upon delivery, the student will receive an email notification to their Knights email and a phone call from mail staff for immediate pickup. If the package is not picked up on day one, the mail staff will send two subsequent reminders via phone call, email, and/or text message. It is the student’s responsibility to pick up the package in a timely fashion. Any package deemed perishable that is unclaimed after 7 days, will be disposed of with email notification to the student of disposal. If a perishable package begins to leak or emit odor prior to the 7-day pick-up period, the package WILL be disposed of for health and sanitation reasons with notification to the student of disposal.

Can students receive store-to-door deliveries to the mail center?

Items delivered directly from the store are referred to as store-to-door deliveries. They include but are not limited to local florists, pharmacies, live shopping (Walmart, Target, InstaCart), food deliveries (DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub), etc. These types of deliveries are not accepted at the mail centers. Only items shipped through traditional mail carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) are accepted.

When can students start shipping packages to the campus mail center?

For Fall and Spring Semesters, students may begin shipping packages to their respective mail center 7 - 10 days in advance of the semester move-in date. The mail centers will process all packages and have them ready for pick up when students arrive on campus.

Why can’t parents receive information about packages?

Due to the privacy and safety of students, the mail centers will not answer questions regarding the receipt of packages. This information will only be provided to the student.
