Deer’s 8 Favorite food sources

Antler King®’s GREAT 8™ is a fall annual food plot blend that consists of eight specially selected plant varieties. These varieties help ensure there are always plants maturing and available to graze on. If you are not certain what to plant and want to make sure your food plot always has something for deer to eat, plant GREAT 8.

Directions for Use.

PLANTING DIRECTIONS:
1.) Antler King®’s GREAT 8™ may be planted in the late summer or early fall.

2.) Take a soil test to determine the pH level. If needed, apply enough lime to raise the pH to a 6.5 to 7.0.

3.) Eliminate any existing weeds on the proposed plot, either by raking, mowing, discing, or spraying with a contact weed killer, such as Roundup®. Wait 7 days to plant after spraying with any weed killer.

4.) To maximize growth potential, spray Antler King®’s PLOT MAX™ to help raise the pH, aerate the soil, increase organic matter, help the soil retain moisture and create an environment for the plants to thrive. Optimal results can be achieved by reapplying PLOT MAX™ in both spring and fall.

5.) One 8lb. bag will plant 1/4 acre (approx. 11,000 sq. ft.) and one 40lb. bag will plant 1-1/4 acre. Spread 100 lbs. of 19-19-19 fertilizer per ¼ acre and till into the soil prior to planting. Plant seeds less than 1/4″ deep.

6.) After plants are 3 inches tall, spray with Antler King®’s JOLT™ FOLIAR FERTILIZER, which has been formulated to provide food for plant growth. Spray monthly for best results.

  1. Great 8™ - Antler King (8)

    Jeff Osborne

This made for a decent food plot.

It did grow and produce very well. BUT here are the cons

There are a lot of seeds in this mix that compete with each other. You really shouldn’t be planting the rye and oats with your brassica blends. The Brassicas grew up and were doing great until the rye and oats started taking off and then they just took over the whole plot. Again they are a good food source so its not like it was a weed but id did choke out my greens from the brassicas. I would recommend just planting a separate plot with one of their other Brassica blends and if you wanted rye or oats plant those on their own at a later date in the season.

Again it grew great but I would not recommend this mix as a cure all, keep your competing plant species separate in your plots and you will be much better off.

Thank you for reaching out to us about what you have seen, we appreciate the feed back, you are absolutely correct when it comes to competition and during all the testing we did with this mix we found it not to be an issue unless we over seeded the test plots with to much seed, now I’m not say that’s why you have seen the competition, this is just what we found

Follow up. As a perennial, ladino clover will be slow to establish the first fall or spring it is planted. Don't worry. Keep monitoring, and you'll see it become very productive the first spring (after a fall planting) and each summer, fall and spring thereafter for as long as the crop persists.

Protein is especially important. The University of Missouri found that a difference of 8 percent and 16 percent protein in a buck's diet through age 4 can potentially cause a 20-inch difference in antler size. That's the difference between a decent rack and a tale-worthy trophy.
